UniFi Switch Pro 48
Ubiquiti · rack switch, 1U · USW-Pro-48
what it is
A managed layer-three switch for a 19-inch rack, 1U high: forty-eight gigabit ports and four 10G transceiver slots. The front panel has a 1.3-inch touchscreen. Steel enclosure, 442 × 285 × 44 mm, weight 4 kg without brackets — 115 mm shallower and more than two kilograms lighter than the PoE version.
No port supplies PoE to devices. The manufacturer specifies power draw of the whole switch up to 60 W, from the built-in power supply. Among layer-three features the manufacturer lists routing between networks, static routes, and a DHCP server and relay.
what we read from it
Over SNMP, from the standard tables:
- The state of each port separately — enabled, with or without link, speed, last change.
- 64-bit traffic counters — they do not wrap at 10G traffic.
- Frame errors per port — the Ethernet error table, which makes it possible to find one faulty cable among forty-eight.
- VLANs and port assignment to them.
- Neighbors reported via LLDP — what is plugged into which port, if that device announces itself.
- Model, serial number and firmware version from the physical entity table.
port layout
The forty-eight copper ports are arranged in two rows of twenty-four, divided into four blocks of six columns. Numbering runs down, then right: 1, 3, 5… on top and 2, 4, 6… on the bottom.
The 10G transceiver slots are in two separate cages, two each, one above the other: ports 49 and 50 in the left, 51 and 52 in the right.
The touchscreen is at the left edge, the reset button at the right, at the very bottom of the panel. The rear panel has two power inputs: AC mains and redundant DC from the UniFi Power Backup supply.
what to watch out for
- This is not the PoE version under a different name. From the front both models look almost the same: the same port layout, screen and transceiver cages. An access point or camera plugged in here will not start without a separate power supply.
- Over SNMP both models look the same — they expose the same set of tables. They are told apart by the model code: the UniFi controller shows this switch as
US48PRO2, and the PoE version asUS48PRO. - With firmware 7.4.1 the controller does not report the port role in the STP tree. You can see that a port is working, but not whether it is blocked as a backup.
- An SNMP access password (community) longer than 20 characters is silently truncated by UniFi switches.
what we cannot read
- Temperature, CPU load and memory over SNMP — the sensor and resource tables are empty.
- Health of the 10G transceivers — temperature and optical signal level. The device reports link state, not optics.
- What the switch passes through — traffic and error counters are visible, not content.
