UniFi Switch 8 PoE (60W)
Ubiquiti · desktop switch, 8 ports, 4 with PoE · US-8-60W
what it is
A small desktop switch: 148 × 28.7 × 99.5 mm, steel chassis, eight gigabit ports in a single row. Four of them supply PoE (power over the cable) from a shared 60 W budget.
The power standard is 802.3af, not PoE+. For planning this is the deciding difference: a device expecting PoE+ will not start from this switch, even though the plug fits.
what we read from it
The data comes through the vendor controller, not directly from the switch:
- the state of each port individually — whether the link is up, at what speed and in what duplex, and how much power is drawn by the device on the other end;
- what is plugged into which port — including equipment from other vendors, if it identifies itself via LLDP, the protocol devices use to announce their name to neighbors;
- transmitted and received traffic, along with error counters and the number of link drops;
- firmware version, uptime since power-on and the cause of the last restart;
- availability and response latency.
port layout
The eight ports sit in a single row, with a pitch of 15.83 mm. Ports 1–4 do not supply power, ports 5–8 do.
And here is the pitfall, because it is visible to the naked eye and misleading. Above the ports runs a black strip with a label about power. This strip is not the group boundary. Measured: its left end sits 2.2 mm to the right of the actual boundary — exactly above the left edge of the fifth port, not in the gap between the fourth and fifth. The real boundary is marked by a groove in the chassis, dark across the full height of the port band.
Taking the strip as the power boundary is off by half a port pitch — and with eight ports that is enough to plug a camera into a port that will not power it.
what to watch out for
- There is no cable test. The UniFi Network 10.6.106 controller has no such function at all.
what we cannot read
- What exactly is on the other end of the cable, if the device is not managed. We can see that something draws power and how much; what it is — only if it identifies itself.
full parameter list
A full parameter list for this model is not here yet — the ones described above are those we have read and verified. A missing list does not mean the device exposes nothing more.
